John Llamas

January 26, 1932 — March 25, 2008

John Llamas age 76 of Topeka, passed away Tuesday,  March 25, 2008 at Colmery O’Neil VA Medical Center.

 

He was born January 26, 1932 in Topeka the son of Sotero “Jose” and Camilla Tostado Llamas.  John served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

 

John was a construction worker working for various construction companies.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and was an avid KU Basketball fan.

 

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

 

Survivors include three sisters; Rita Rodriguez of Peoria, AZ, Rosie Vela and her husband Arturo of San Jose, CA and Yolanda M. Torres and her husband Benjamin of Kansas City, KS.  John helped raise five nephews; David, Daniel and Douglas Llamas and Derek Pardee all of Topeka and Wesley Llamas of McKinney, TX.  Many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.  John was preceded in death by his parents, brothers David “Bobby” and Henry T. Llamas and a sister Martha Rodriguez.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW.  John will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the John Llamas memorial fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
