Cruz Rene Soza

Cruz René Soza, 57, of Topeka, KS died Monday, July 30, 2018 at the House at Midland Care.

He was born December 6, 1960 in Topeka, the son of Michael and Elvira (Ramos) Soza.

René served in the US Air Force and was a Nursing Assistant at the Colmery O’Neal Veterans Administration Hospital retiring in January of 2017. 

He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where he was a member of the K. of C and served as an usher.  René loved to dance, sing and enjoyed listening to music.  He was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football and K.U. Basketball.  The most important thing to René was his family; he never missed an opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren.

He married Angenette Garcia on January 9, 1993 in Topeka.  She survives.  Other survivors include his mother, Elvira (Vera Ramos Sturm), a son, Nathan (Jessica) Soza, daughter, Taelor Soza, three grandchildren, Jackson, Levi and Avery.  Four siblings, Michael “Benny” Soza, Joseph “Joey” Soza, Michele (Brad) Knoll, Alfred Sturm and several nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by his father, Michael, and step-father Melvin Sturm.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where a rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the church.  Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Midland Care Hospice Palliative Care Unit sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
