Dorothy Holmes

Dorothy Holmes, 94, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away July 23, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living Center. She was born on August 30, 1923, daughter of John A. Yustick Sr. and Anna G. Salek Yustick. Dorothy Graduated from Auburn High School in 1941. She married Charles Holmes on November 20, 1948 where together they had one son, Ronald “Ron” Holmes.

Dorothy was a life long member at Christ the King Catholic Church. She was in charge of all of the funeral meals at the church since the beginning of time. She was most famous for her German Chocolate Cake, that she would also make for everyone’s birthday. She loved to bake and cook. Easter was Dorothy’s favorite holiday. “Aunt Dodo” was always in charge of Easter gatherings involving egg hunts, dinner, and choosing who got to dress up as the Easter Bunny.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Charles, on April 17, 2012, her son Ron on December 6, 2010; three brothers, Edward Medved, Joseph Medved, and John Yustick Jr.; and sister Betty Jean Croucher.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Kelsey Holmes, Garrett Holmes, and Scott Holmes, and one great grandchild, Grady Newton. As well as a host of many nieces and nephews. As her health declined, Dorothy was cared for by her four nieces in Topeka, Vicki, Linda, Terri, and Brenda.

Visitation will be Friday, July 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. Followed by Mass of Christian Burial starting at 11:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be me made to St. Croix Hospice or to Christ the King Catholic Church.
