Mary Alonzo

Mary Alonzo, 92, of Topeka, KS, died Friday, May 25, 2018 in the comfort of her home with her family by her side.

She was born in Topeka on April 22, 1926 the daughter of Jose and Felicitas (Yanez) Rodriguez. 

Mary retired in 1986 from Highland Park, USD 501, where she worked in the cafeteria. 

She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she married John Alonzo on June 24, 1961.  He preceded her in death on August 18, 2015.  She is survived by a son, Thomas (Vicki) Alonzo, a daughter, Annette Alonzo,  two grandsons, John (Jaclyn) Alonzo, Stephen Alonzo and a great-granddaughter, Allison all of Topeka.  She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph (Pal), Thomas, Joseph (Bitney), Benny, and Ralph Rodriguez.

Mary will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.    

Her family would like to express their gratitude and extend a special “Thank You” to Mary’s caregivers, Mary Pruitt and Misty Wilmers-Brown, with Grace Homecare along with the staff of Midland Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Midland Care Hospice sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
