Jose A. Colón, 75, of Topeka, KS died January 7, 2018 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
He was born June 9, 1942 in San Juan, Puerto Rico the son of Hermino and Maria (Rosario) Colón.
Jose worked for the U.S. Postal Service where he worked in Supply. He owned and operated Jose’s Imports in the Oakland Neighborhood from 1970 until 1988.
Jose served in the US Army. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he was active with the Mexican Fiesta serving as Co-Chairman both in 1974 and 1975. Jose was also a member of the DAV and was a nationally recognized award winning local artist.
He married Dolores “Lola” Lopez on March 3, 1962 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Jamie (Erin Hatton) Colón, Latisha Colón (James) Barnes and Hiram Miguel Colón, his siblings, Judy Colón, Hector Colón, Hiram Colón and Martha Colón Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hermino and Maria, a sister, Leticia Ruiz and a brother, Tio Pito.
Jose was cremated. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 P.M. Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Following the rosary the family will receive friends until 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
