JoAnne Sommers Newberry

JoAnne (Sommers) Newberry, 67, of Topeka, died October 5, 2017 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.

She was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 11, 1950 the daughter of Joseph Adam and Elizabeth S. (Burghart) Sommers.

JoAnne retired from Westar Energy after many years of service where she worked primarily in the construction division.

She was well known for her baking goods which gave her pleasure to make for family and friends.  JoAnne was an avid reader, and a lover of old time movies. 

JoAnne married Michael Newberry on April 2, 1971. He predeceased her on May 3, 2001. She is survived by her sister, Amy Hutchison of Pueblo, Colorado as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her parents on April 19, 1983.

She was cremated. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception. Private inurnment will be in the Foster Cemetery.
