Frederick “Fred” Neugebauer, 78, of Topeka, Kansas, died October 5, 2017 at his daughter’s home in Lawrence. He was born March 18, 1939 the son of Alfred and Marie Neugebauer. Fred was a 1957 graduate of Hayden High School. Fred married Judith Goetz in 1965 and later divorced. He served nine years in the Army National Guard, worked several years at Harkness Drug, then spent 38 years as a machinist for the Santa Fe Shops. Fred enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who were his number one priority. He also spent many hours with his coffee and lunch buddies. He was extremely passionate about his faith and held strong ties to St. Joseph Parish. Fred is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Steve) Bennett, of Lawrence, and his son, Tony (Karin) Neugebauer, of Westminster, CO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Logan Bannister, Kailey Neugebauer, William Neugebauer, and Christina Caya. He was predeceased by his brother, Herb. Fred will lie in state after 2:00 pm Sunday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka, where a Rosary will be prayed at 3:00 pm followed by the family receiving friends until 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Fred would prefer memorials to the St. Joseph Restoration Project and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas, 66603.
