Gary B. Fleenor, 74, of Topeka, died September 8, 2017 at Homestead of Topeka.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on September 27, 1942 the son of Clifford B. and Dorothy L. (Sechrist) Fleenor. Gary served in the Army National Guard for four years.
He was co-owner of Capitol City Office Products until 1987. He worked as a Financial Advisor for Wells Fargo prior to his retirement.
Gary was a Past President and lifetime member of the Downtown Optimist Club and also the Jaycees. He served on several boards over the years but was most proud of his 25 year board membership for Stormont-Vail Hospital. Gary was elected to the first City Council in 1985 and served 3 terms, representing District #7, until 1993. He also served as Chairman on the committee which brought the Treasures of the Czars Exhibit to Topeka from Russia.
Gary married Mary Patricia (Garrett) Fleenor in Topeka, on February 6, 1970. She predeceased him on July 24, 2015. Survivors include his four children, Julie (Dan) Lamott, Christine Fleenor-Adolph, both of Topeka, Jon (Lynne) Fleenor of Shawnee, KS, Jeff (Michelle) Fleenor of Roeland Park, KS, 11 grandchildren, and two great grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be in Westlawn Memorial Gardens.
