John Blattner, 75, of Topeka, died August 11, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.
He was born on October 15, 1941 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Edward J. and Sylvia (Gora) Blattner.
John worked as an Industrial Engineer for P&H Crane for 24 years. Later in life, he worked for Frito Lay, retiring after 13 years.
John served in the U.S. Air Force from October 3, 1960 to October 2, 1964, and was an MP while stationed at Forbes Field.
He was a longtime member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where he was both a Eucharistic Minister and did adoration for 25 years. John was also a member of the St. Matthew Council of the Knights of Columbus, and the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved reading and watching movies, always sharing his books with his family. John was also a Green Bay Packers fan.
John married Cathy Jacobs on March 31, 1962 in Topeka at Forbes Field Chapel. She survives. John is also survived by daughters; Deborah Hartman, Chris (David) Long, Cindy (Lewis) Crawford, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brothers; Tom (Barbara) Blattner and Dick (Shari) Blattner, a sister; Margie (Danny) Nencka, and many nieces and nephews. Brothers Jim and Chuck Blattner and sister Mildred Bea preceded him in death.
John will lie in state at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Sunday, August 13th where the Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Chalice Ceremony will follow. His family will then receive friends until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14th. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided.
