Marguerite Appelhanz

Marguerite F. Appelhanz, 94, of Topeka, passed away on July 14, 2017 surrounded by her family..

She was born in Emmett, Kansas on November 18, 1922 the daughter of Michael and Mary (Hanna) Flanagan. She was a graduate of Emmett High School and later moved to Topeka where she worked in production for the John Morrell Company.   Marguerite was also a day care provider in her home for many years.

Marquerite was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. She bowled on the Catholic Women’s League and enjoyed going to Pappan’s Landing Senior Center. She especially enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was married to Raymond Appelhanz in Topeka, Kansas on April 23, 1946. He predeceased her on March 9, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Steven (Denise) Appelhanz of Topeka, a daughter, Madonna (Tom) Woodrow of Topeka, four grandchildren, Shawna, Colleen, Aaron and Joy, seven great grandchildren, Gavin, Breckin, Jordan, Hunter, Ashton, Kierton and Addyson, one great great grandchild, Winslet and her sister-in-law, Amelia Flanagan of St. Marys, Ks. She was predeceased by three sisters, Aileen Flanagan, Mary Alice Hefner and Kay Reser and a brother, Joe Flanagan.

Marguerite will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
