Aurora Corliss Gutiérrez, 71, of Topeka died Sunday, May 21, 2017 at St. Francis Health Center. She was born on March 27, 1946 in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Philemon and Marciana (Llamas) Gutiérrez, Sr.
She was a life-long resident of Topeka, a graduate of Topeka High School and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Bottoms Reunion. She retired as a self-employed car detailer. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, baking, loved animals, was an avid KU and Mickey Mouse fan.
Aurora is survived by her companion, Kimberly Berberick of the home, her brother, Philemon Gutiérrez, Jr. (Colene), of Holton, a sister, Belia G. Lowe (Fritz) of Minneapolis, MN. and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philemon and Marciana Gutiérrez, Sr., an infant brother, Fernando Dexter Gutiérrez, brother, Leon Gutiérrez and a sister, Sylvia G. Lopez.
Aurora will lie in state on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Aurora’s memory to the Helping Hands Humane Society or the St. Joseph Catholic Church Renovation Project and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
