Alvino Nicolas Duran Sr., 80, of Pratt, Kansas, formerly of Topeka died April 20, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
He was born in LaJunta, Colorado on March 1, 1937, the son of Jose and Cora (Lucero) Duran. Alvino was a building maintenance superintendent for Y.W.C.A., retiring in Topeka. He was an Air Force veteran. Alvino enjoyed spending time with his children, playing guitar, shooting pool and playing softball.
Alvino was preceded in death by his first wife Guadalupe M. (Martinez) Duran on May 29, 1977, a son Alvino Duran, Jr. on July 5, 1985. He is survived by his wife Helen Duran of the home, his children Mario (Rosa) L. Duran, Topeka; Yolanda Duran, Topeka; Daniel (Danna) A. Duran, Moyock, N.C.; Debra (Billy) Woods, Kansas City, KS; 13 grandchildren, April, Armando, Cesar, Tristan, Samantha, Joshua, Jacob, Josiah, Graciana, Brandy, Billy III, Nicholas, Isaiah, 14 great-grandchildren, step-children Debbie Lowe, Gary Dean Crosby, John Crosby, and Dennis Crosby.
Alvino will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held at Mount Calvary.
