Helen Heath was born on September 2, 1919 in Topeka, KS to Virgil and Ethel (Myers) Grimes. She married Harold Heath and had two daughters, Janet and Sharon. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, she worked as an accountant for Scotch Dry Cleaners, and then as a volunteer at Stormont Vail Hospital for more than 20 years.
Helen enjoyed crafts such as needlepoint, sewing and ceramics, loved to play card games, and was very active in her church and a member of the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle 503.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Ab Alkassim of Potomac, MD; her brother Donald Grimes; three grandchildren Dina, Sami and Faris Alkassim; two great grandchildren Rakan and Dakota; and several nephews and nieces including Craig and Myra Grimes of Topeka, as well as grand nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold Heath, daughters Janet Lewman and Sharon Alkassim, and grandsons Kevin and Ricky Lewman.
Helen will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2 p.m. where the family will receive friends until 4 p.m., at which time a rosary will be prayed by the Daughters of Isabella. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church, with a reception to follow. Father Gregory Hammes will celebrate. Following the reception, Helen will be taken to Mount Cavalry Cemetery in St. Marys for burial at 12 p.m. All are welcome to attend in commemoration of Helen's life and passing.
