Francis (Frank, Francisco) Vargas, Jr.
Francis Vargas, Jr., Passed away February 5, 2017 at the House at Midland Care in Topeka, KS.
Frank was born May 26, 1930 in Topeka, KS the son of Francisco Vargas, Sr., and Marie Villafranco Vargas.
He graduated from Our Lady of Guadalupe Grade School, Hayden Catholic High School and Finlay Engineering College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Frank made a career in the aircraft industry working for such companies as Boeing, Lear Jet, Lockheed and McDonald-Douglas.
He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the US Navy as a Medical Corpsman aboard the USS Agawam and at the San Diego Naval Hospital.
Frank married Marie Lupe Chagoyan and later divorced. He married Linda Carol Sanders and she preceded him in death in 1999.
He is survived by a son, Francis Vargas, III and daughters: Alice (Tim) Kaiser, Elizabeth (Dennis) Meister, Deborah (Alan) Napoli, Carroll (Brian) Platt, Denise Vargas and Patricia Baker; step-son, Kelly (Ruby) Joseph, step-daughter, Melissa (Jim) Squire; 17 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Other survivors include Frank’s siblings, brother, Tony (Linda) Vargas, Sr., sisters, Mary Mosquera, Stella Florez, Alice (Steve) Dominguez, and Rose Ramos all of Topeka along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandfather, Tomas and a baby sister, Maria Luisa.
Frank will lie in state after 2:00 pm Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends until 9:00 pm with a rosary being prayed and 3:00 pm and another at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
