Maria Elena (Carreno) Whitcomb, 73, of Topeka, died February 1, 2017 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born in Celaya, GTO, Mexico on November 30, 1943 the daughter of Tony R. and Margaret (Guerrero) Carreno. Maria Elena worked in Food Service for USD #501. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She married Robert H. Whitcomb in September of 1964 in Topeka, Ks. They later divorced. Survivors include her children, Diane (Robert) Baysinger of Tecumseh, Cindy (Greg) Donley of Carbondale, Bobbie Jo Rodriguez of Topeka, and Robert “Jimbo” Whitcomb of Topeka, her siblings Tony “Little Tony” (Patricia) Carreno, Mary Lou (Bill) Kramer, and Guy (Connie) Carreno all of Topeka, ten grandchildren, Sgt. Skylar Donley serving in Kuwait, Johnathan Rodriguez, Dane Baysinger, Tess May, Jacob Donley, Chae Baysinger, Jacob Whitcomb, Victoria Whitcomb, Logan Whitcomb, and Amanda Donley, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Guy Carreno in 1951 and a grandson, Dakota Stephen Donley. A memorial visitation will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Tuesday, Feb. 7th, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held immediately following the mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation or the Continuing Education Program sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
