Walter “Wally” Minihan, 72, of Topeka, died January 14, 2017 at Lexington Park.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on June 24, 1944 the son of James and Florence (Hefner) Minihan. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and was a 1962 graduate of Hayden High School.
Wally worked in Duplicating for the State of Kansas for 28 years. He also worked in maintenance at Hayden High School and for Wally’s Janitorial.
Wally was a very social person, never knowing a stranger. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid sports fan especially KU Basketball.
He was a member of Mater Dei Holy Name Parish where he was a volunteer and a member of Knights of Columbus Council #534.
He married Bernadine E. Sommers at the Assumption Church on September 14, 1973. She survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Bernadine “Bernie” C. Bachta and husband Timothy, four grandchildren, Nathan, Reece, Ella and Chase and a twin brother, James (Mary Ann) Minihan Jr.
Wally will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. followed by the family receiving friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
