Toribio “T-Bone” AKA “Tony” Lira, 98, of Topeka, died December 16, 2016 at the House at Midland Care. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 27, 1918 the son of Guadalupe and Santos (Torrez) Lira. Toribio was a passenger carman for the AT & SF Railway company for 38 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid bowler until the age of 96 and was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in St. Louis. T-Bone enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going to his grandchildren’s activities. Toribio married Delores Tostado in 1937. She predeceased him on September 27, 2006. He is survived by a son, Richard (Rhetta) Lira and a daughter, Mary Ann Garcia, five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Manuel, Florencio and Cecil and a sister, Lucille Anguiano. He will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday where the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
