Mable (Taylor) Bruce Burdorff Sherman, 97, formerly of Topeka, died December 1, 2016 at an assisted living facility in Littleton, CO. She was born in Cambridge, KS, on November 9, 1919, the daughter of Delmer and Zetta (Williams) Taylor. Mable shared her gift of nurturing throughout her life-- as nurse’s aide and nursing secretary in units at Stormont-Vail Hospital, as the Sorority House Mother for the Zeta Tau Alpha House at Emporia State University and Washburn University, Briman’s Jewelry, a local fabric store, Wild Willy’s, Falley’s bakery, in-home health care and with nearly every person who knew her. Children always brought a smile to this mother’s face. She was an active member of her communities, in the Women’s Club, bridge clubs, the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, leader in local 4-H clubs, and volunteered at numerous organizations. Mable is survived by three daughters, Dorothy, Carol, and Ruby, brothers, Roy, and Don, and a sister, Alice as well as several grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Carl, three brothers, Harold, Dale, and Ray, two sisters, Ruby and Opal and three husbands, Stanley Bruce, Victor Burdorff and Jerry Sherman. A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Private inurnment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to, Capper Foundation, 4-H clubs of Kansas, or Salvation Army, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 S.W. 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
