Donald Leo Dunn

Donald Leo “Don” Dunn, of Topeka, died December 2, 2016 at Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center.  He was born in Kansas City, KS on October 31, 1953 the son of Leo and Leona (Richardson) Dunn.  Don served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist and in Search & Rescue.  He worked in street maintenance for the City of Topeka, where he retired in December 2015.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.  Don had a green thumb and enjoyed flower gardening with a fondness for roses, zinnias, and house plants.  He loved animals along with working on and riding his custom-built Harley-Davidson.  Don married Sarah Rutherford on April 1, 2000 in South Lake Tahoe, CA.  She survives.  Survivors also include a sister, Joyce (Steve) Magee, of Carbondale, a brother, Ronnie (Linda) Dunn, of Topeka, three step-children, Angela, Heather, and Bryan, and three step-grandchildren, Gavin, Aiden, and Malachi, along with several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Don will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Funeral Services will be held at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 901 SW Fillmore, on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Valley Falls Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Helping Hands Humane Society sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6^th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
