Douglas C. “Doug” Menke, 57, of Topeka, KS died unexpectedly Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Stormont-Vail. He was born the son of Charles and Carolyn (Bletscher) Menke on March 31, 1959 in Salina, KS. Doug was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He was a 1977 graduate of Highland Park High School. Doug enjoyed reading and was very active in coaching and supporting his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was the coach and helped start the Saints Junior High Football Program at Hayden Catholic High School where he was active for over 15 years. For over 20 years he worked as a Records Analyst for Westar Energy and prior to that was Produce Manager for 15 years at Falley’s. Doug married Dee Jones in Topeka on July 28, 1979. They later divorced. He married Traci (Peddle) Padilla on July 2, 2014 in Lawrence, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Shawn Douglas (Kelly) Menke, Tyler Paul (Nikki) Menke, Ryan M. (Emily) Padilla all of Topeka, Melissa M. (Kyle Flynn) Padilla of Columbus, OH, seven siblings, Patti (James) Puff of Maple Hill, KS, Sandy (David) Weeks of McMinnville, OR, Daryl Menke of Bloomington, IL, Dwight (Diane) Menke, Tim Menke, Gary (Judy) Menke and Jon (Carrie) Menke all of Topeka, KS. He has four grandchildren, Caleb, Campbell, Cade and Quinn. He was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn, in 1997 and his father, Charles, in 2015. He will be missed by all and remembered as “Papa Doug” to his grandchildren. Doug will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Matthew Catholic Church where the family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Hayden Catholic High School Athletic Program sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
