On November 3, 2016, William “Billy Boy” Gomez Jr., won the war against cancer and is now celebrating his victory in Heaven while being supported by his loving family and friends. Bill was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 17, 1963 the son of William S. and Martha (Gauna) Gomez Sr. He was a 1982 graduate of Highland Park High School. Bill attended Vo-Tech and worked for Adam’s Business Forms for over 17 years as a Printer Pressman and the Union President. He was a Supervisor for the Juvenile Correction Facility for seven years. He loved softball both as a coach and as a player, golf, fishing, riding his motorcycle, cooking and listening to all types of music. He was an avid sports fan especially to the KU Jayhawks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon State Beavers, Buffalo Bills and St. Louis Cardinals. He enjoyed officiating high school and college sports. Bill was a godfather to his niece, Kylee Marie Gomez. He loved outdoor activities and especially spending time with his family and friends. He married Dawn (Martin) Pennington on July 12, 2008. She survives. He is also survived by his parents, William and Martha Gomez Sr., five children, Micheal Anthony Gomez, Elicia Moniqué-Gomez, Lacey Aguilera-Gomez (Adrian), Joshua E. Gomez and Mason A. Gomez all of Topeka, two step children, Cody and Devin Pennington both of Topeka, 14 grandchildren; Miquel, Raigen, Christian, Zeke, Adrian, Isaiah, Kai, Romeo, Gemma, Esmiayah, Gauge, River, Oakley, and Bayla with a new grandchild to arrive next year. His siblings are Adolfo G. Gomez of Topeka, Christina Marie Gomez of Salem, Oregon, and Laura Gomez-Solis (Marco) of Topeka. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Bill will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Thursday after 4:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. followed by a sharing of memories by family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory in lieu of flowers to St. Francis Cancer Center or to Topeka Community Cat Fix and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
