Mary Catherine "Katie" Herman

Mary Catherine “Katie” Herman, 93, of Topeka, died October 11, 2016, at Aldersgate Village.  She was born in Topeka, KS on September 6, 1923, the daughter of Roy and Mary (Peck) Newell.  Katie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed crocheting.  She married Anthony “Tony” Herman on May 22, 1946 in Topeka.  He predeceased her on August 15, 1998. Katie is survived by her three children, Michael (Cheryl) Herman, Thomas (Jo) Herman, and Patricia (Martin “Bud”) Esser, a brother, Jack (Betty) Newell, a sister, Shirley Logan, ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandsons.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Randy Herman on August 8, 2012.  She will be greatly missed by all.  Katie will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart/St. Joseph Restoration Fund sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6^th Avenue Topeka, Kansas  66603.
