Edith Norma “Shorty” Martinek, 89, of Topeka died Tuesday, October 4, at the House at Midland Care surrounded by her family. She was born in Glendale, Kansas on April 22, 1927, the daughter of Jess Oliver and Alberta Ellen (Keifer) Manning. Norma was a CNA at the VA Hospital and retired from there after many years. She had previously been a Real Estate Agent for Lauderbach Real Estate. She enjoyed ballroom dancing, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, boating, waterskiing and camping with the family. Norma was a member of Beta Sigma Pi and Central Park Christian Church. She married Steven J. Martinek. He preceded her in death. Norma is survived by her five children, Carla (Paul) Johnson, of Omaha, NE, Steven Craig (Francee) Martinek, Tammy (Stephen) Loeffler, Roxie (Kenny) Senogles, and Susan (Max) French, all of Topeka, eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Norma will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Midland Hospice Care or Central Park Christian Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
