Joseph "Joe" Cervantez, 88 of Topeka, died September 11, 2016. He was born in Topeka, KS on January 22, 1928 the son of Lorenzo and Maria (Peralta) Cervantez. Joe served during World War II with the United States Army. He worked for Santa Fe Railway Company in the Wheel Shop for 45 years before retiring in 1989. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and listening to Mexican Music. Joe was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and worked at the annual Fiesta for many years. He married Frances Esquibel on May 6, 1960 in Topeka, she survives. Joe is also survived by two daughters, Victoria of Topeka, Vivian Best (Anthony) of Hutchinson and one son Victor (Mary Ann) of Topeka; two brothers Frank and Manuel of Topeka; three sisters, Lola Vega and Guadalupe Guerrero of Topeka and Carol Garcia of Las Vegas; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Felipe, Tony, Memo & Ernie and sisters Isabelle and Delores. In honor of his love for the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs the family asks that you wear shirts with either the team colors or logos during the wake. Joe will lie in state from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church where the family will receive friends and family from 5:00 to 7:00pm and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Military honors will be conducted at Mt Calvary Cemetery.
