Charles “Chuck” E. Claassen, 76, of Topeka, died at the House at Midland Care. He was born in Newton, KS, the son of Edward and Hester (Regier) Claassen. Chuck worked in various capacities at Westar Energy, retiring after 30 years as Material Manager. He was a United States Army veteran and member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. Chuck married Bonnie L. Toews on January 6, 1964 in Moundridge, KS. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Michael (Jackie) Claassen of Dover, KS, Jeffrey (Vicki) Claassen of Berryton, KS, along with three siblings, Harold Claassen, Elizabeth McKim and Clara Kerekes. Three grandsons, Mason, Max and Matthew Claassen also survive. He will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 29th and Michigan. Graveside service will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at West Zion Mennonite Cemetery, Moundridge, KS. Memorial contributions may be made in Chuck’s memory to Highland Park United Methodist Church, Midland Care Hospice or Heritage Christian School, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
