John T. Segura, 85, of Topeka, Kansas died Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, on November 1, 1930, the son of Juan G. and Antonia T. Segura. John was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served in Korea. He most recently worked for American Sentry Security and retired from Allis –Chalmers Industrial Tractor Operation in 1988; he previously worked for Sun Beam Bakery and was co-owner and operator of The Spanish Village at 1st and Jefferson in Topeka from 1950 to 1962; prior to that he was employed at AT & SF. John was a member of Mater Dei (Holy Name) Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW, American Legion Post #400, and the UAW International Union. He was a dedicated father and committed to his family. John enjoyed telling stories and sharing his experience serving in Korea. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed playing bingo at Capital Bingo in Topeka. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten; Amor Eterno Daddy. John is survived by his daughter, Margo (Tim) Rangel, his siblings, Ramona Alvarez, Rita Charay, Henry T. (Wilma) Segura, Carolina (Alex) Hernandez and Pete T. Segura, all of Topeka, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. He will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 12:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 S.W. 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
