Michael Leon Bowers

October 4, 1958 — July 5, 2016

Michael Leon Bowers, 57, of Topeka passed away in his home on July 5, 2016. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 4, 1958 the son of Paul and Delores (Mendoza) Bowers. Michael graduated from Topeka High School. He worked in production for OSHE Meat Products. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and building race cars with his brother, Steve. He married Patricia Thacker on June 23, 1978 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Topeka. They later divorced. He married Nita Cozad on October 6, 2002 in Eureka Springs, AR. They also divorced. Michael is survived by his parents, a son, Matthew (Christine) Bowers, a stepson, Adam Chapman, two sisters, Susanna (Julian) Oliva and Linda (David) Lucero, sister-in-law, Vicky Bowers, three grandchildren, Justice, Elena, and Sofia, nephews Steven Bowers, Jr., Bryan Bowers, David Lucero, Julian Oliva III, and a niece, Olivia Oliva. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Lee Bowers, Sr., and grandparents, Faustino and Juana Mendoza of Topeka and George and Mary Bowers of Oak Ridge, MO. Michael will lie in state after 2:00 pm on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Parish Rosary being prayed at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
