Duane L. Henson, 73, of Topeka, entered into his eternal home on June 30, 2016 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 15, 1942 the son of Earl W. and Helen A. (Renyer) Henson. He graduated from Nortonville High School.
Duane worked as a Computer Programmer for Santa Fe Railway and retired in 2001 after 37 years of service.
He enjoyed gardening, bicycling and doing cross word puzzles. Duane was a loving caregiver and a generous volunteer at St. Matthew Catholic Church where he was a member, greeter, money counter, sang in the choir and an adoration participant.
Duane married Rosemary Vail at the Church of the Assumption on September 20, 1969. She survives of the home. He is also survived by a daughter, Detria (Blair) Anderson of Topeka, a son, Darren Henson of Chicago, and his siblings, Donna Jean Henson S.C.L. of Leavenworth, Terry (Nancy) Henson of Nortonville, Ks., Linda (Jay) Lang of Gainsville, Ga., and Karen (Dennis) Herman of Hays, Ks.
Duane was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served at Ft. Carson during the Vietnam War. He also served with the Kansas Army National Guard.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5th, at St. Matthew Catholic Church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by the Divine Mercy Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Matthew Catholic Church or the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
