Antonia Martinez, 90, of Topeka, KS died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at her home. She was born January 9, 1926 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Joaquin and Paula (Luna) Padilla. She married Simon Martinez on August 12, 1950 in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death on March 9, 2000. In addition to being a homemaker and raising her family, she worked as a custodian at the Shawnee County Courthouse. She then moved on to work at Quincy Elementary School where she served hot lunches to the children for 10 years. She was a life-long member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Antonia is survived by six children, Cecilia (Basilio) Galvan, Leo Martinez (Kitty), Cathy (Ronnie) Blackwell, Paula Talbert (Barney), Marguerita Essman and Alice (Greg) Slater along with six siblings, John Padilla, Al Padilla, Louie Padilla, Severina Padilla, Virginia Lara and Juanita Padilla. Eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren also survive. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Sister Margarita Padilla and a brother, Frank Padilla. The family wished to acknowledge Lee Valdez for the companionship, kindness and affection he showed to Antonia. She will lie in state after 2:00 pm Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church or Meals on Wheels sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
