Carmen Leah McDonald, 67, of Topeka, Kansas died May 11, 2016 at The House at Midland Care. She was born in Belle Plaine, Iowa on March 19, 1949, the daughter of Wilbert and Vernelle (Kalina) Peters. Carmen was a 1967 graduate of Topeka West High School. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 18 years as a rural carrier. Carmen enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading and country living where she was an avid gardener. She had a huge heart for animals and loved her dog, Huckleberry “Huck”. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Carmen married Gary McDonald on February 15, 1969 in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include a son Kelly McDonald (Julie) of Topeka, a daughter Heidi McCoy (Rob) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, 4 grandchildren, Breckyn McDonald, Cade McCoy, Killian McDonald, and Grace McCoy. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kelly Peters and sister, Nikki Brown. Carmen will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Saturday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Funeral service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery.
