Marcellene M. Wurtz

Marcellene M. Wurtz, 85, of Topeka, Kansas died May 9, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born in Greenleaf, Kansas, on June 28, 1930, the daughter of George and Gertrude (Diederich) Hellman.  Marcellene married Audry Wurtz on May 8, 1954 in Greenleaf.  He preceded her in death in 1995.  She married Duane Wilson in June, 2001, in Washington, KS.  He preceded her in death in 2013.  She received her teaching certificate from Mount Saint Scholastica and taught all eight grades in a country school near Greenleaf.  Her family was her life yet she found time for her hobbies of reading biographies, embroidering, gardening and baking.  Marcellene is survived by four sons, Gregory Wurtz (Renee), of Wheaton, IL, Dean Wurtz (Cheryl), of Richardson, TX, Bruce Wurtz, of Overland Park, Dennis Wurtz (Mary), of Topeka, daughter Linda Wolf (Tony), of Topeka.  Four stepchildren, Rick Wilson (Velinda) of Washington, KS, Dean Wilson (Linda) of Hollister, CA, Debra Zabokrtsky (Keith) of Washington, KS, Kaye Johnson (Huey) of Platt City, MO along with 13 grandchildren also survive.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Wunder in 2006, and three sisters, Agnes Hellman, Anna Noyes, and Mary Lillibridge.  Marcellene will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.  – 7:00 p.m. with a Parish Rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at noon at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 S.W. 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
