Sylvester J. Broast

Sylvester J. “Heavy” Broast, 94, of Topeka, Kansas died May 6, 2016 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home.

He was born in Topeka, Kansas, on September 14, 1921, the son of John and Mary (Kissar) Broast.

Heavy attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School.  He started Topeka Plumbing and Heating in 1951 and later sold the business.  He then started a landscaping business and enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard.

He is survived by a sister, Virginia Arnold of Topeka and several nieces and nephews. Heavy was preceded in death by his siblings, George, John, Marie, and Elizabeth.

Heavy will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
