Mary G. Creason

Mary G. (Williams) Creason, 92, of Topeka, KS died Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Aldersgate Village. She was born September 7, 1923 in Hoyt, KS the daughter of Orion and Margaret (Evans) Williams.  Mary was a 1941 graduate of Hoyt High School and attended St. Mary’s at Leavenworth and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in 1944.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Veterans Administration.  She had a 32 year career at Topeka State Hospital as a psychiatric nurse participating in the study, research, and development of psychiatric nursing care.  As an educator, she worked alongside doctors training at Menninger.  Mary taught psychiatric medicine to Topeka nursing students.  In the 1970’s, she worked closely with Dr. Karl Menninger researching and developing a treatment care plan for juvenile offenders.  Mary was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she was active in the Women’s Club.  She was also a member of the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503, the Kansas State Nurses Association, St. Francis Auxiliary and the Philip Billard Post #1650 Auxiliary of the V.F.W.  Mary married Melvin Creason on June 1, 1950 in Topeka.  He preceded her in death on September 9, 2008.  She is survived by two daughters, Regina Nicol of Lawrence, Pamela Reynolds of Gilbert, AZ, stepson, Paul Creason of Richardson, TX, two brothers, Orion “Bud” Williams of Hoyt, George Williams of Topeka.  Seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren also survive.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Rohr and a step-son, Charles Creason.  She will lie in state after 2:00 PM Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:30 PM until 7:00 PM.  Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503 will pray the Rosary at 4:30 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Croix Hospice or to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
