William L. “Bill” Hirschberg, 88, passed away in Topeka on April 27, 2016.
He was born January 12, 1928 in Topeka the son of Carl and Ruth (McKinley) Hirschberg. He lived all his life in Topeka and graduated from the Clark School of Business. Bill served in World War II with the U.S. Navy and was on board the USS Tamalpais AD-96 in the Pacific. He married Dolores “Dee” Cox on November 5, 1948. Prior to her passing on November 20, 2003 they spent 55 years devoted to one another and the family that they would have together, which would include three daughters, Elaine, Barbara and Carla. Bill worked for Falley’s, Inc. as a Frozen Food and Dairy Manager, retiring in 1993. He also worked in Sales for Office Supply and Furniture. After retirement he worked part time at Roach Hardware North. He was a current member of Christ Lutheran Church. He was a past member Calvary Lutheran Church where he served on the building committee and on various other committees. Bill is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Elaine Kidney (Robert), Carmel, IN; Barbara Lawrence (Phil), and Carla Wilson (Corey) all of Topeka; six grandchildren, Lieutenant Commander Christopher Kidney, USN, (Christina) Pensacola, FL; Petty Officer First Class, Elizabeth Kidney Lee, USN, (Donny) Jacksonville, Florida; Danielle Lawrence West (Matt), Abby Lawrence Allen (Lucas), Katie Wilson Ansley (Jerrod), Topeka and Alex Wilson, Lenexa. Great-grandchildren, Isaac and Adley Ansley, Scott Lee, Hunter Allen, and Hudson West also survive. He will lie in state after 2:00 PM Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday at Christ Lutheran Church, 3509 SW Burlingame Rd. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ Lutheran Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
