Benjamin V. Fletcher, Jr., 83, of Topeka, died April 24, 2016 at his home.
He was born in Frankfort, Kansas on January 25, 1933, the son of Benjamin V. and Mabel (Yager) Fletcher Sr.
Ben served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post #400. He enjoyed assisting veterans and worked at the VA Hospital as a volunteer where he cut hair for the patients.
He was a Barber and worked at the Chesterfield Hotel prior to owning and operating Ben’s Westside Barber Shop until his retirement in 1999.
Ben enjoyed tomato gardening, fishing, hunting, and collecting antique fishing gear. He was also an avid Kansas State Fan.
Ben married Marilyn Alexander on September 25, 1952 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Michael (Lynn) Fletcher of Columbia, Missouri, two daughters, DeAnna “Dee” Ellis of San Antonio, TX and Lori K. Fletcher of Kansas City, Missouri, two grandchildren, Benjamin V. Fletcher III and Alexander M. Fletcher both of Columbia, Missouri,and a great grandson, Carter Michael Cole. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Donald Fletcher; two sisters Ila Thomas and Marjorie Lillibridge.
Cremation is planned. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends. A Graveside inurnment service will be held at the Marysville Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 28.
