Josephine A. Cervantes, 89, of Topeka, died April 10, 2016 at her home. She was born in Capac, Michigan on December 20, 1926, the daughter of Porfirio and Rosario (Ramirez) Gutierrez. Josephine was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She managed the Coffee Shop at Sears and Roebuck and later worked in the cafeteria at Highland Park High School. She enjoyed going to the casino, bird watching, the outdoors and was an excellent cook. Survivors include her companion, Steve Castellon, children, Linda Westover (Terry) of Olathe, Gloria Ramirez (Lifelong companion, Frank Flores), Chick Griffith (Terry), Phil Cervantes, Jr. (Mary Seaver), and Michael J. Cervantes, she is also survived by her siblings, Larry Gutierrez (Connie) of Olathe, Philip Gutierrez (Rebecca), Cruse Sauls (Bill), and Jenny Pimentel all of Topeka. Twelve grandchildren numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren also survive. Josephine was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Beasley, her siblings, John Gutierrez, Lupe Gonzales, Lucille Miranda, Mary Gailey, Felicia Dominguez, and Tony Gutierrez. Josephine will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Josephine’s memory to Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue Topeka, Kansas 66603.
