Fernando Alvarez

Fernando E. Alvarez, 41, of Lawrence, died March 30, 2016. He was born in Topeka, KS July 12, 1974, the son of Fernando and Ruth (Hupp) Alvarez. Fernando graduated from Shawnee Heights High School and worked as a graphics manager at Star Sign. He was an avid gun enthusiast. He is survived by his father, Fernando Alvarez of Elkhart, IN, his sisters Crystal Nash of Moore, OK, Michaele Ward of Holdenville, OK, a son, Antonio Alvarez and Antonio’s brother, Rick, step-fathers, DeWitt Rawls, of Moore, OK, and A.J. Davis of Holdenville, OK, fiancée Shannon Tate and children: Jordan Russell, and Kameron and Jagger Tate, along with two grandchildren, Zakia and Kash Russell, his grandmother, Ramona Alvarez and his ex-wife, Gretchen Wortman. Fernando is also survived by a niece, Karla Ward and nephews, Tyler Ward, Dylan and Jesse Hollins, and J.J. Nash. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Rawls, a brother, Lawrence Alvarez, and his grandfather, Joe Alvarez. Fernando was cremated. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will begin at 2:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Antonio Alvarez education fund sent in care of University National Bank, 1401 Kasold Drive, Lawrence, KS 66049.
