Thomas David Raikes, 64, of Topeka, died March 24, 2016 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis from complications after a double lung transplant.
He was born June 9, 1951 in Topeka, the son of Joseph and Eilene (Smith) Raikes. Tom liked playing strategic games, hunting, fishing, and was an avid KU fan.
Tom served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.
Tom worked for St. Francis Medical Center for over 30 years as a Clinical Technician.
He married Lynda Marie McNeive on December 3, 1973 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.
Other survivors include his children; Angela Lake of Hoyt, Kansas, Nicole Meier (Augustine), and Shane Raikes, both of Topeka, three sisters; Judy Henson, Marion Kasewurm (Ray), and Susan Raikes, all of Topeka, 10 grandchilden; Ashley, Jessica, Brittany, Autumn, Alex, Augie, Dillon, Elizabeth, Stormy, and Sarah. He was preceded in death by a brother Joey Raikes and his parents.
Tom will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday, where a parish rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear Kansas Jayhawk attire. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 1, at Westside Christian Church. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery with military honors provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 604.M
