Charles “Dale” Kirkwood, 88, of Topeka, Kansas died March 16, 2016 at The House at Midland Care Hospice. He was born in Topeka, Kansas, on June 5, 1927, the son of Ray and Millicent (Lawton) Kirkwood. Dale served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Plant Assignor for Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring after 35 years. Dale was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was member of the 3rd degree of the K of C Council 2608 and the Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers. He married Mary Louise Dechand on November 20, 1954 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on May 18, 1990. He married Glendora Marie Mellies on April 18, 1997. She survives. Dale is also survived by his children, Deborah Russell (John), Denise Casebier (Terry), Dalene Leugers (Bob), Darrell Kirkwood (Gail), Dwight Kirkwood (Becky), Danette Robison (David), Deanna Reeves, and Derek Kirkwood (Tricia), three siblings, Robert Kirkwood, Doris Miles, Frances Ferguson, fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Dee Kirkwood and Nina Wolford. Dale will lie in state after 4:00 P.M. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where the family will receive friends until 7:00 P.M. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Dale’s memory to Sacred Heart/St. Joseph Parish or to Midland Care Hospice, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 S.W. 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
