Frances Mary Gigous, 91, of Topeka, died February 27, 2016 at the House at Midland Care surrounded by her family.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on September 12, 1924 the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Urban) Schaefer.
Frances was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and dancing especially the polka. She was a charter member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she volunteered serving funeral dinners. She was a past member of the Hayden Mother’s Club.
Frances married Joseph Buck Gigous at St. Joseph Church in Topeka, on June 26, 1946. He preceded her in death on August 4, 1999. They had five children, Joseph E. (Gladys) Gigous, Susan M. (Terry) Gooden, twins – Donald G. Gigous and David W. (Sarah) Gigous all of Topeka and Carol A. (Jeff) Mickens of Berryton. She is also survived by a brother, Pete Schaefer of Las Vegas, Nevada, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Irene Lungstrum, Agnes Elliott, Jacob Schaefer and Sylvester Schaefer.
Frances will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
