Thomas D. “Tom” Swader, 66, of Topeka, died February 9, 2016 at the House at Midland Care. He was born in Spokane, Washington on August 21, 1949 and was adopted by Ora and Geraldine (Smith) Swader. Tom began working at the age of 14 for the Eastboro Pharmacy. He later worked for Falley’s Foods for 11 years, Beisecker Sash and Door for 11 years and as a Glazer for Harding Glass for 20 years. He was also the Vice President of Swader Towing. Tom was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed racing, playing poker and fishing. He married Sandra S. Busey at the Church of the Assumption on November 4, 1967. She survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Thomas Dale “Tommy” (Teresa Anderson) Swader Jr. of Topeka, Michael “Mike” (Jennifer) Swader of Topeka, two brothers, Bill Bryant of St. Louis, MO, Steve Swader of Topeka, two sisters, Norma O’Brien of Ogallala, NE, and Paula Bryant of Topeka. Tom was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryson Swader, and by his parents. Tom will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Sacred Heart/St. Joseph Parish or Midland Hospice Care sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue Topeka, Kansas 66603.
