Imelda Aguirre, 59, of Topeka, died November 30, 2015 at her home. She was born in Plateros, Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico on March 16, 1956 the daughter of Adolfo Avila and Alvania Abrego. Imelda was a graduate of the Escuela de Enfermeria Hospital General and worked as a nurse in Mexico. While in Topeka, she worked for Let’s Help, Inc. as an educator to assist people in getting their GED. Imelda was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir, and was an active volunteer for the Fiesta Mexicana. She married Jacinto Aguirre in Topeka, Kansas on April 27, 1990. He survives. Other survivors include her parents, Adolfo and Alvania, four children, Daniel, Aaron, Karina and Jonathan Aguirre, eight grandchildren and seven siblings, Amalia, Juan Francisco, Rosa Marie, Javier, Eduardo, Norma and Edmundo. Imelda will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. with a Legion of Mary Rosary prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
