Bill R. Huddleston, 81, died November 19, 2015, at Autumn Home Plus surrounded by his family. He was born on April 16, 1934, in Westmoreland, Kansas, the son of Hubert and Erma (Mortimer) Huddleston. Bill married Shirley Stueve, on December 27, 1954, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Axtell. She survives. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954-1955. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #534 and James W. Gibbons, Topeka Assembly #286. For over 36 years, Bill worked in construction, as a foreman and superintendent. He retired from USD #450 Shawnee Heights’ building maintenance department in 2000. Other survivors include his son, Steve (Tammy) Huddleston, daughter-in-law, Sally (Huddleston) Schreiner (Chris), six grandchildren, April, Casey (Layne) Bradley, Tyler, Michael, Heather, Hannah Schreiner, and one great-grandchild, Colton Baker. Also surviving is a brother, Jerry (Sue) Huddleston of Emporia, and two sister-in-laws, Olivia Huddleston of Vermillion, and Tomi Huddleston of California. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gregg, three brothers, Hank, Dick, and Don, and a sister, Martha. Bill will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice Ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. followed by a rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 24, at 10:00 a.m. at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #421.
