Kassandra D. Thurman, 55, of Topeka, died October 3, 2015 at St. Francis Health Center. She was born on July 27, 1960, the daughter of Melbourne and Bertha (Cunningham) Spaulding. Kassandra worked as a clerk in the banking industry for several years. She enjoyed listening to music, as well as singing, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She married Steven E. Thurman at Second Baptist Church in Topeka. He survives. Other survivors include her father, Melbourne "Buddy" Spaulding, her children: Jerron Thurman and Temese Thurman, grandchildren, Jae'von Thurman, Jahaveion Thurman, and O'Honna Miller, all of Topeka. A fourth grandchild is expected in April. Her sister, Che-Tiana Spaulding, a brother, Doncarlos Spaulding, her step-mother, Carolyn Spaulding all of Topeka along with two aunts and several cousins from Denver also survive. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother Andre D. Spaulding. Kassandra will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. following the visitation. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will take place at a later date.
