Salvador "Sal" Vega Jr., 83, of Topeka, died August 26, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born in East Chicago, Indiana on October 16, 1931 the son of Salvador Sr. and Eulalia (Martinez) Vega. Sal was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and watching sports on television, especially the Royals, Chiefs, and the Kansas Jayhawks. He was married to Dolores Servantez on March 15, 1954 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. They were married for 61 years. She survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Patricia Vega, Debra Lang (Keith), and Maria A. Huske (John), all of Topeka, a brother Alphonso Vega of Columbus, Indiana, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Salvador will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. The family asks during the visitation that friends wear their favorite sports team attire, with the exception of Kansas State. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 134 N.E. Lake, Topeka, Kansas 66616. Military honors will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 604. Cremation will follow the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
