Benjamin R. Ramos, 89, formerly of Topeka, died August 12, 2015 at the Valley Manor in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 4, 1926 the son of Santiago and Delphina (Romero) Ramos. Benjamin served in the US Navy. He was a member of Philip Billard VFW Post #1650 and American Legion Post #400. He received a BA degree in English and Spanish with a minor in French from Washburn University. He taught Adult Education for Iowa Community College, Washburn University and the Albuquerque Technical Vo-Tech. He continued his studies at Kansas University. Benjamin was fluent in three languages, Spanish, English, French and he also knew Italian. He is survived by four daughters, Carmen Ramos (Randy Reddick) of Los Alamos, New Mexico, Anita Eakins (Billy) of Granbury, Texas, Kathryn "Kat" Beasley (Charley) of Liberty, Missouri, Linda Marie Richey (Galen) of Kearney, Missouri, a son, Ramiro Benjamin Ramos (Shelley) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, four sisters, Vera Sturm, Irene Escobar, Mary Arellano and Victoria White all of Topeka. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Shaun Curry (Rebekah Banigan), Dominic Curry (Holly), Brian Curry, Justin Barton, Kristen Randolph (Daniel), Dustin Beasley (Jodie), Jesse Beasley (Natasha), Alan Richey, Rheanna Randolph (Jerome), Bradley Ramos, and Halley Ramos, and his great-grandchildren, Dane Curry, Tevin Curry, Siera Randolph, Kyra Randolph, Lexa Randolph, Breya Randolph, Micah Barton, Danielle Beasley, Landen Ray Beasley, MacKenzie Randolph, Ary Ann Randolph, and Emmitt Randolph who will be born in October. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Salvador, Raul and James, and a sister Beatrice Escobar. Benjamin will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with military honors provided by American Legion Post #400 to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
