Emma Martin Hund, 100 years, passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at her home in Topeka. Emma was born August 23, 1914 in Baldwin, Kansas the daughter of William and Emma (Bourke) Martin. Emma graduated from Waverly High School in 1933 and St. Francis School of Nursing in 1940. She married Mark Hund of Paxico, Kansas on September 27, 1941 at St. Joseph Church in Waverly. Emma was a homemaker and farm wife. She was very active in Sacred Heart Altar Sodality and made numerous rosaries for the missions. She made baptismal stoles and gowns for Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka for over 15 years. Survivors include her children, Bill (Irma) Hund of Topeka, Janie (LeRoy) Funk of Nortonville, Jerry (Marilyn) Hund of Paxico, Carol (Richard) Purcell of Paxico, Martina Hund of Topeka, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and one sister, Georgia Smith of Topeka. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mark on September 17, 1991, brothers, James and Bill Martin, sisters, Margaret Bauman and Julia Plank and one great grandson Jacob Hund. Emma will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday, August 14th where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. followed by the visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Newbury, about a mile north of Paxico, on Saturday, August 15th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Paxico.
