Dolores "Lola" Torrez, 79, of Topeka, died July 21, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born in Topeka on March 1, 1936 the daughter of Juan and Teresa (Perez) Barranco. Dolores was a homemaker most of her life. She loved to crochet, enjoyed cooking, and was an avid reader of religious literature and she collected angels. She enjoyed volunteering at the Fiesta Mexicana and was a member of the Legion of Mary, the Altar Society, the Augustine 3rd Order Prayer Group and Cursillo at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was also a past member of the Daughters of Isabella. Dolores married Gonzalo "Gus" Torrez on June 30, 1956 in Topeka, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 5, 2009. She is survived by seven children, Gonzalo (Josie) Torrez Jr., Ignacio (Maria) Torrez, Lupe (Lewis) Hutfles Sr., Monica (Andre) Jolly, Gregorio (Brunilda) Torrez, Macario (Julie) Torrez, Mario (Kathy) Torrez, a brother, Salvador Barranco, two sisters, Rafaela "Ralph" Salazar and Cenaida "Cenny" Gonzalez along with 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Lola was also preceded in death by five sisters, Aurora Sanchez, Concepcion Martinez, her identical twin, Maria Rocha, Josephine Munoz, and Amparo Gamino, three brothers, Pete, Angel and Jesus Barranco. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and was a mother to many of the children she babysat, especially Rita Ann Gamino Chavez, whom she raised from the age of one until the age of five. Rita is still considered one of her children. Dolores will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Legion of Mary and Altar Society rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. and a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
