Paul Gutierrez, Jr.

Paul Gutierrez, Jr., of Emporia, Kansas died June 11, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, KS. He was born April 29, 1945 in Topeka, the son of Pablo and Refugia (Davalos) Gutierrez, Sr. Paul graduated from Hayden High School and worked as a carpenter. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. Paul was an avid KU basketball fan. He married Ruth Ferrier on August 26, 1978 in Emporia. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Paul Gutierrez II, Michael Gutierrez, Michele LaFave, Stephen Gutierrez, and Lisa Gutierrez, his siblings, Louis Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez, Mary Lou Alvarez, and Richard Gutierrez. Eight grandchildren, Jessika Gutierrez, Matthew Gutierrez, Brittani Gutierrez, Mariah LaFave, Michael Gutierrez, Jr., Tiarra Gutierrez, Colton Hinrichs, Cadence Hinrichs along with three great-grandchildren Gabby Buelterman, Viola Lopez and Luke LaFave also survive. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. Paul will lie in state Sunday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M until 6:00 P.M. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
