John Garcia, 66, of Topeka, died June 3, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 8, 1949 in Lawrence, Kansas, the son of Patricio and Rosa (Romero) Garcia. John served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. John worked as a machine operator for Hallmark Cards for 25 years. He then worked as an Officer for the Department of Corrections for 20 years. John was an avid Dallas Cowboy, Kansas Jayhawk and KC Royals fan. He enjoyed traveling, music, coaching baseball with his son's teams and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He married Rosalie Castardo at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on November 30, 1968. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Stacey (Doug) Lucy of Olathe, Santos (Abby) Garcia of Phoenix, AZ, and Jamie (Keri) Garcia of Topeka, his two brothers Bob (Josephine) Garcia and Sonny (Margaret) Garcia both of Lawrence, and six sisters, Antonia (Marion) Ramirez , Jenny Garcia all of Lawrence, Sabina (Leonard) Vasquez of Escondido, CA, Lucy (Mike) Garcia, Irene (Buddy) Langford, and Candice Crane all of Lawrence, and five grandchildren, Aiden, Kieren, Jonathen, Isabel and Alisera. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Andy Garcia, Mercedes Jaimez and Lupe Garcia who died in infancy and nephews Richard Jaimez and Jeff and Brian Garcia. John will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Military honors will follow the funeral and will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 604. Cremation will follow the funeral. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence, KS.
